Where Did We Start?
82 leads in a month don’t just magically appear out of nowhere. You don’t get them from hoping. You have to start somewhere. With this client we started by doing an audit of their entire online presence. We looked at their social media, Google Business Profile, and their website. When we did this audit we noticed that there was a lot of room for them to grow with their website, increasing conversion rates, and Google Business Profile.
Improving Their Website
When analyzing this company’s website we noticed that they received a lot of traffic but that they didn’t get a lot of conversions. There were quite a few reasons for this. Their website was targeting keywords related to their industry, but they were low value keywords. These keywords were also related to services that are commonly mistaken for a similar industry.
During our audit we also saw that this website had a really bad user experience. Even if the traffic that came to this website was quality it was unlikely that it would convert. It was hard to find the information that was needed to choose their service. It was also difficult to find out how to contact them.
Because of the issues related to the keywords and design of the website they had we decided that it was best to build a completely new website. We started the website redesign by coming up with a strategy.
New Website Strategy
In addition to needing an awesome new design, this company also needed a different keyword/content strategy to rank for more high value keywords. We had several conversations with this business to choose the services that were most important for them to get leads for. We also figured out the locations that would produce the most leads.
After these conversations we had a list of high value services and locations that we needed to build content for. Before we built the content for these services and locations we analyzed what the companies were doing who already ranked for those services and locations. We built better and more optimized content so that we could rank higher than their competitors for the terms we wanted to show up for.
The next thing that we needed to do was create an awesome user experience (new design) that would make it easier for people to find the information they needed and convert into a lead.
Website Redesign
As part of the web redesign that we were planning we advised the client that we should come up with a special offer to implement on the website.
Most of their competitors had a special offer listed and it would help them compete against those offers. (In certain industries this is the norm, not including the special offer can hurt your conversion rate).
When we were redesigning the site we made sure that the special offer was prominent so that people would see it and be more likely to convert.
We designed different call to actions and layered them throughout the site so that visitors didn’t have to search to find out how to get an offer or get more information.
We organized the website content to make it easy to find and easy to digest. This helped increase the amount of time that people stayed on the website. It also helped increase the conversion rates.
The final and most important thing that we did with this redesign is brand it to the company. We didn’t copy what everyone else was doing. We didn’t use a cookie cutter design template. We customized the design to fit their brand and stand out. They now have a website that makes their services look more valuable and visitors can easily tell that they are professionals. After the redesign we needed to optimize the website for SEO to help bring in traffic.
Website Search Engine Optimization
You can have the best design and best content in the world, but if it isn’t optimized for SEO it is not going to help you bring in more business. There are a lot of elements to SEO that won’t be covered in this guide, but this should give you a basic understanding of SEO.
When we were building this client's website we implemented SEO throughout the entire process. The redesign was built with SEO in mind. For those of you who don’t know, a major factor in SEO is related to user experience. Google (and other search engines) wants the user on your website to find relevant information quickly, and be able to act on that information they receive.
To help with the user experience we built content around what is most important for the user to find. We layered this content strategically to make it easy for people to find and act on the information they received. We also made the website extremely easy to navigate. We had internal links on every page (where needed) to make it easy to transition into more information if that visitor needed it.
After spreading the content out strategically we worked on the technical SEO on the site. We made sure that we had relevant Title, Meta, Alt, and other backend data set up properly. This helps search engines better understand your content and how to rank different pages for different searches. (This is also part of the keyword strategy).
The final element of SEO that we worked on is website optimization. We made sure that there weren't any bugs on any of the pages. We made sure that the website loaded quickly. We also made sure that the website dynamically looked great on every screen size and that the CTA’s all worked.
After we worked on the website SEO we moved on to optimizing this company’s Google Business Profile.
Google Business Profile SEO
Google Business Profile is an important tool for any local business. It can be a game changer for local service based businesses. When we work with a business on their website and or marketing we always implement a strategy that includes their Google Business Profile. We do this because your Google Business Profile can help your website rank better, and your website can help your Google Business Profile rank better.
When looking for a local business people will see two different kinds of results. They will see Google Business Profiles in the Map Pack, and they will also see SERPs. A lot of traffic goes to the Map Pack. It should not be ignored.
With this business we noticed that it had a lot of spammy information listed on the GBP that was hurting their ranking. We also noticed that they didn’t have their most important services listed.
We optimized all of their services and locations that they had listed. Between optimizing the Google Business Profile and the content we added to the website they started ranking for more searches in a wider area than they did before.
After all of this work with this company’s website and Google Business Profile we needed to make sure they could track what was happening.
Analytics & Conversion Tracking
It is great to have an awesome website that is bringing in leads, but how do you know that the leads are coming from your website? How do you know how to build on the progress that you are making? When we build websites we always implement analytics and conversion tracking.
For most businesses Google Analytics 4 is the best website analytics tool. It is free to use and provides all of the insights that you could possibly need. We frequently use GA4 and pair it with Google Tag Manager. With Google Tag Manager we create custom events to track every conversion action on the website. This makes it easy to tell how many phone calls, lead forms, email sign ups, and other conversion actions are made off of the website.
Between GA4 and the custom events we set up we can tell how many people came to the website, where they came from, how long they stayed, what pages they visited, and how many turned into leads (along with other information).
Analytics and conversion tracking is crucial to understanding your website and how to grow on traction that you are building.
What Was The Result?
We put a lot of work into helping this business bring in more leads organically. We built out new content, redesigned their website, optimized their website and GBP for SEO, along with other things. The result was that all of our work was paid for in the first month. We set this business up to succeed. They were not generating nearly as many leads as they could have before we worked with them. We helped them reach their full potential with our web design and SEO services.
